Medicare Part D is prescription drug coverage. Part D is optional drug coverage administered through private companies that can be paired with other Medicare plans.[1]

Part D helps cover the drug costs that Original Medicare doesn’t cover. Many Part C plans come bundled with Part D plans. Meanwhile, standalone Part D plans can be paired with Part C plans without drug coverage, Original Medicare, and Medigap plans as well. Standalone Part D plans cannot however be added to Part C plans that already have a drug plan bundled.

TIP: Part D costs can be lowered based on income via the Extra Help program.
